The Boating Industry Association (BIA) has unveiled the 'Responsible Boat Ownership' campaign, a comprehensive initiative aimed at fostering safe and responsible boating practices among Australia's vast boating community.
This campaign is a collaborative effort under the Australia New Zealand Safe Boating Education Group (ANZSBEG), bringing together maritime regulators and peak bodies from Australia, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea.

Launched to coincide with Safe Boating Week 2025, the campaign focuses on three key pillars:

  • Own it: Assisting potential and new boaters in making informed decisions when purchasing boats, with an emphasis on identifying safety risks.
  • Maintain it: Offering guidance on proper storage and maintenance to ensure vessels remain in optimal condition.
  • Enjoy it: Encouraging boaters to make informed, safe, and sustainable choices to enhance their boating experiences.

BIA CEO Andrew Fielding highlighted the association's commitment to promoting a culture of safety that extends beyond a single week, aiming to empower boaters with the knowledge necessary for responsible decision-making. In support of this initiative, the BIA has introduced a Marine Broker Accreditation program, setting criteria to protect and assure the best interests of the public. Additionally, alliances with marine surveyors have been formed to encourage the engagement of qualified professionals when purchasing boats, particularly used ones.
