Austal Limited, a prominent Australian shipbuilder, has secured a contract extension worth over $135 million to construct two additional Evolved Cape-class Patrol Boats for the Australian Border Force.
This development increases the total number of these vessels to 14, underscoring Austal's pivotal role in bolstering Australia's maritime surveillance capabilities.

The Evolved Cape-class Patrol Boats are designed to meet the rigorous demands of border protection missions. They feature modern crew accommodations for up to 32 personnel and are equipped with advanced systems to enhance operational effectiveness and sustainability. The construction of these vessels will take place at Austal's Henderson shipyard in Western Australia, supporting the national shipbuilding supply chain and contributing to the local economy.

Since 2020, Austal has delivered 12 Evolved Cape-class Patrol Boats to the Australian Border Force and the Royal Australian Navy. The addition of these two vessels reflects the continued confidence in Austal's capabilities and the performance of the Cape-class platform. The company's commitment to supporting Australia's defence requirements is further demonstrated through its involvement in the Guardian-class Patrol Boat program, with 22 out of 24 vessels already delivered.

Chief Executive Officer Paddy Gregg expressed pride in Austal's contribution to Australia's maritime security, stating that the Evolved Cape-class Patrol Boats have proven to be highly capable and reliable assets for border protection missions. The new contract not only enhances Australia's maritime surveillance and response capability but also reinforces Austal's position as a key player in the nation's defence sector.

For individuals interested in the maritime industry, this development highlights the ongoing investment in Australia's naval capabilities and the opportunities within the shipbuilding sector. The expansion of the patrol boat fleet signifies a commitment to maintaining robust maritime security and the importance of a strong domestic shipbuilding industry.
